I knew a great horseman and every time he came across someone who thought they knew how to ride, he would ask them how many times they have fallen off.

It was not that he wanted people to fall off, but he knew that the number of falls and the way the question was answered would give him and indication of the person’s experience and attitude to learning.

He also knew that as soon as you realize how much you don’t know about horses is when you start to really learn

Remember that an experienced horse person understands that perfect results are not achieved all the time.  The ability to improve yourself and your horse can be part of the challenge and enjoyment of having a life with horses.
